“Rejoice and Be Merry”, also known as “A Gallery Carol” or “The Gallery Carol”, probably dates back to the 18th century. This particular arrangement of “Rejoice and Be Merry” was written for a children’s chamber group. The key signature is a standard G major. It is scored to be fairly simple and to practice reading a D.S. al Coda and 3/4 time. Because this was arranged for an inexperienced group, the cello leads in to give the tempo. I would suggest that the violist be allowed to simply begin from the pick-up to measure 3 if everyone can learn or already knows how to catch the tempo cue.
“Rejoice and Be Merry” was a song I sang in children’s choir a long time ago. I liked it the first time I heard it but never wrote my own arrangement until I needed to arrange a few pieces of religious music for string quartet.
