The sheet music offered here is for “Aloha ‘Oe”, or “Farewell to Thee”, by Queen Lili’oukalani. This arrangement is for easy violin in G major. The sheet music include the lyrics in both Hawaiian (Look: 4 vowels in a row!) and English.
Aloha ‘Oe is known as Queen Lili’oukalani’s most famous song. She composed it in 1878 in Hawaiian and did her own English translation, which is a fact that I immensely approve of.
The arrangement you see here is a simple song with a simple one-page sheet of music. This is, of course, because I only scored the famous chorus of the song. Easy violin pieces for little children should be short.
I transcribed this from my memory but did check the lyrics, because I am not fluent in Hawaiian.
Lyrics
I have no idea whether or not these English lyrics are Queen Lili’oukalani’s own translation, but it is the version I know.
Aloha ‘oe, aloha ‘oe, | Farewell to thee, farewell to thee, |
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo. | Thou charming one who dwells among the bowers |
One fond embrace, | One fond embrace, |
A ho’i a’e au | Before I now depart, |
Until we meet again | Until we meet again |
