Suo Gân is a traditional Welsh lullaby. Like many traditional songs, the composer is “Anonymous”. These sheet music arrangements are in G major for a trio of violin, cello, and piano or a trio of violin, piano, and piano. This is overall an easy and simple arrangement to ease children into playing with others and to accustom them to the idea that they do not always have the melody.
There are two different versions on this page (Violin + Cello + Piano and Violin + Piano + Piano). This arrangement was created specifically for a beginner chamber group that I thought would consist of a violinist and 2 pianists. One of the piano-players dropped out very early, at which point I revised the piece so that I could play the cello. Obviously, that means only the violin-cello-piano version was tested with an actual group. (It suited our purposes and they thought it sounded “nice”.) In the piano trio version, violin has the melody most of the time, but piano gets to introduce and say goodbye. The cello exists more to fill out the sound and provide slight balance. I have not thought about the violin with 2 pianos version in a while, but the violin still has the melody there.
